March on Parliment

It is truly unfortunate that there was a march on parliament today asking Premier Brown to go. If it was anyone else who made the decision people won’t question it but because it was Dr. Brown they can’t accept it.

The people in this country with the financial power will do everything they can too make Bermudians feel the Government is unstable. WAKE UP PEOPLE THEY WANT THE POWER BACK. Hence that being said we have some back benchers that seem to play into the hands of the people who want Dr. Brown out how pitiful.

I have 2 things I would like for all Bermudians to think about:

1) Were the people of Bermuda consulted when we took the boat people into Bermuda many years ago?

2) They are marching on parliament because they think the Premier is reckless, what we should be marching for is our young black men who is recklessly shooting up this Island. There will be no march until one of the people on the march today’s’ family member is caught in the cross fire of a bullet.

Makes you wonder what really is important to People of Bermuda!!!!

Gladly

1) Were the people of Bermuda consulted when we took the boat people into Bermuda many years ago?

Yes. In fact the United Kingdom were consulted in advance and the matter was debated in the House of Assembly so all MPs (including both the PLP and UBP) could reflect and represent the interests of all Bermudians.

2) They are marching on parliament because they think the Premier is reckless, what we should be marching for is our young black men who is recklessly shooting up this Island. There will be no march until one of the people on the march today’s’ family member is caught in the cross fire of a bullet.

I think you should go and help organise this march and may very well be surprised with who turns up. But please be clear regarding your intent as your remark above "what we should be marching for is our young black men who is recklessly shooting up this Island" could be seen as support for those engaged in gun violence.

I agree on #2

I agree that a demonstration should be held regarding stopping the violence. All it takes is for someone to organise it, and I am sure people will turn out for it. To date (as far as I can recall) all such demonstrations have been reactions to violence and not pre-emptive of them.

My fellow PMers can correct me, but I recall we met to discuss this very issue and the possibility of organising just such a demonstration. Sadly I was leaving the island, but it was thought that the next PMers would continue with the plans. I recall that we saw a demo as only a part of the solution, maybe to get people's attention. The argument was that, sure, people come out, we raise conciousness for an hour, and then we get back to business as usual. That wouldn't be good enough. So I think the plan was to use a demo to launch a series of initiatives that would focus both on the current situation (alternative to violence) AND address the root causes (various social and economic issues).

I think that such an initiative is very much still required, and I hope that the current active PMers could focus their energies on this issue.

Again..

If it was anyone else who made the decision people won’t question it but because it was Dr. Brown they can’t accept it.
Again, it's not the decision, it's how that decision was carried out.
And, as an addition, now that new stuff has come to light, the fact that he disrespected the House and the people of Bermuda by lying to them about the security evaluation.
